Tips from Your Stylist: Wedding Prep Do’s and Don’ts

Your wedding date is set and the day you’ve been dreaming about is fast approaching!

Time to start planning. With the larger details of your wedding decided and booked, you’ll need to find a stylist who can enhance your beauty and bring out your best on the big day.

When should you do this? I’m glad you asked!

Most of the time hair and beauty can be left closer to the wedding date, but if you want to secure your chosen stylist it’s best to book at least 6 months in advance. If your stylist specialises in weddings they are likely to get booked quickly, particularly during peak season. At Elliott & McCartney we get booked up a year in advance – quite the endorsement!

You might also want to book in hair and beauty treatments leading up to the big day; this will need to be coordinated with your stylist.

Testing is Important!

It’s hard to stress enough how important it is to book a hair and makeup trial session. Just like trying on a selection of wedding dresses to see what works for you, your hair and makeup style needs to be tested in advance. What you see in pictures may not suit you and we all know brides who have seen the perfect dress online only to hate it in person!

Weddings have changed in the last few years and have become less fussy formal occasions. More couples are choosing a more boho or festival style of wedding and the general fashion has become more relaxed. You don’t have to get caught up in the traditional ‘hair up’ look nowadays; it’s now more about complimenting your personality and style.

The Expert’s Eye

Your look should reflect the style of your dress and compliment your body and face shape. Again, what you think looks great in a picture may not work for you! As your stylists, we will help you to make the right decision about the look based on these factors and more. For example, you wouldn’t want to choose a dress with beautifully intricate detail on the back and then have a cascade of curls covering it up.

We’d suggest that you don’t try and completely change the way that you look. This can be a trap that brides fall into before the wedding day. We want to enhance your beauty, not make you look like a totally different person. You still want your groom to recognise you when you get the altar, after all!
